Between February 22nd and 25th, the Royal Military College’s Debate and International Affairs Society (DIAS) participated in the annual Carleton Model NATO Simulation in Ottawa. The purpose of the conference is for students from across the country to engage in representing an assigned delegation and country by upholding NATO’s democratic values through soft skills and communication. The team, led by Head Delegate NCdt Eskisarli, represented the United States of America and the Kingdom of Denmark in the North Atlantic Council and the NATO-Ukraine Committee. The team had the privilege of visiting the U.S. Embassy, engaging in discussions with the U.S. Ambassador to Canada, and collaborating with key NATO policy spokespersons and other stakeholders during the conference.
After days of rigorous diplomacy, consensus-seeking, and cooperation, the RMC contingent was honoured with the Best Delegation award. Additionally, OCdt David McKinney, representing the United States, received the Best Delegate award in the North Atlantic Council, paired with a Gavel. OCdt Ryan Yin earned the Distinguished Delegation Award for representing the United States in the NATO-Ukraine Committee, and OCdt Mohammed was recognized with the Honourable Delegate award for representing the Kingdom of Denmark in the NATO-Ukraine Committee.
All participants enhanced their understanding of general discourse in NATO committees, refined their communication skills, and established valuable connections, all of which are skills that contribute to the development of Naval/Officer Cadets. We are pleased to bring this national Carleton MNATO award to RMC and we sincerely thank the Alumni Association for funding this great opportunity.
